Seafreight

The smarter way to move bulk cargo – cost-effective, flexible across container types, and one of the lowest-emission freight options available.

Overview

Why Choose Us?

Transam offers supply chain solutions that connect people, products, and places. By integrating sea and airfreight services with trucking, customs brokerage, warehousing, documentation, and more, we deliver seamless and custom-tailored end-to-end logistics.

Cost-Effective

Sea is the most economical way to move large volumes. Whether you’re filling a full container or sharing space, we find the right fit for your budget.

Versatile

From standard dry goods to refrigerated produce and break bulk cargo, seafreight handles virtually any commodity type at any volume.

Sustainable

Seafreight produces significantly lower carbon emissions per tonne than air. If sustainability is on your agenda, sea is the right conversation to start.

Seafreight Options

We manage imports, exports, and cargo insurance, covering every direction and every risk in your seafreight journey.

Import

We manage your inbound cargo from any global origin – including Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Pacific – handling customs and delivery at the destination end, door to door.

Export

Wherever your freight moves, we handle documentation, booking, and carrier coordination to get your export on the water and delivered on time – any route, any destination.

Insurance Cover

Even well-managed shipments can encounter the unexpected. We arrange cargo insurance tailored to your shipment’s value and risk profile, so you’re protected if the unexpected occurs.

Types of

Seafreight

We work with all major container types and cargo formats, matched to the nature of your goods and the economics of your shipment.

FCL

01

A full container for your cargo alone, with the security of knowing nothing is co-loaded. Best for high volumes, regular lanes, and cargo that needs consistent handling.

LCL

02

Share container space and share the cost. LCL is ideal when your volume doesn’t justify a full box, you pay only for the space you use.

Break Bulk

03

For oversized cargo that doesn’t fit a standard container – equipment, timber, steel, vehicles, or more. We handle the stevedoring, securing, and documentation for non-containerised freight.

Reefer/Temperature-Controlled

04

Chilled or frozen cargo needs a controlled environment from loading to delivery. Our reefer capability covers fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and any product that can’t afford a temperature break.

FAQs

01

What’s the difference between FCL and LCL seafreight?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you book and fill an entire container, which is typically more economical at higher volumes and offers greater cargo security. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your goods share a container with other shippers’ cargo, and pay only for the space your freight occupies. Our team can help you work out which is more cost-effective for your specific volumes and scale alongside you.

02

Can Transam ship cargo by sea to Pacific Island nations?

Yes, the Pacific Islands are a core strength for Transam. We have specialist experience and established routes across the Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, French Polynesia, and beyond. We manage the full journey including in-country customs clearance and last-mile delivery.

03

How long does seafreight to or from the U.S. take?

Transit times vary depending on origin, destination, and routing. Transpacific lanes from Asia to the U.S. West Coast typically run 14–21 days; U.S. to the Pacific Islands generally takes 3–5 weeks depending on the island group and transshipment points. From the U.S., we can connect you to destinations worldwide – we’ll give you an accurate estimate at the time of booking, factoring in all legs of the journey.

04

What container sizes does Transam work with?

We work with all standard container formats, 20-foot and 40-foot dry, high-cube, and reefer containers, as well as open-top and flat-rack options for oversized cargo. If you’re unsure what container type suits your goods, we’re happy to advise based on the dimensions and nature of your cargo.
